Praying for 15 days with Eugénie Joubert
Throughout her short life, Eugénie Joubert, a model catechist, joyfully spread the message of Christ, especially in the suburbs.
François Vayne, Vatican journalist and director of communications for the Order of the Holy Sepulchre in Rome, wrote “Praying for 15 days with Blessed Eugénie Joubert: a catechist of fire,” published in French (ed. Nouvelle Cité) and translated into Italian (ed. Gribaudi editore).
“I want to smile every morning at my mother from heaven”
(Diary, Sister Eugénie Joubert)
It is in the Italian weekly magazine “Maria Con Te” of 2025/05/22, the first weekly magazine dedicated to Our Lady, that four pages are devoted to learning more about Blessed Eugénie Joubert, her life, and her legacy.
The magazine focuses on those who entrust themselves to Mary every day and on the places that celebrate Mary.
François Vayne, the author of the article, is passionate about Mary and Marian figures and knows Eugénie Joubert well. For him, she is a role model for today’s catechists.
A look back at the grave transfer ceremony :
A letter from Damien de Laminne
In a letter, Damien de Laminne, Lieutenant for Belgium of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, gives a faithful account of an emotional day on Sunday 30 June, when the ceremony to transfer the tomb of Blessed Eugénie took place.
‘To have carried her on my shoulders, to have felt the weight of her relics as a call to greater humility and abandonment (…) did not leave me indifferent’, we can read.

Eugenie Joubert as a nun
Blessed Eugénie Joubert, of the Holy Family of the Sacred Heart, was born in Yssingeaux (Haute-Loire) on 11 February 1876; she died in Liège (Belgium) on 2 July 1904 where she is buried in a private Chapel in the Church of Saint-Gilles.
She was beatified in Rome by Pope John Paul II on 20 November 1994: “Sister Eugénie Joubert teaches us to live holiness every day by reminding us that this is our vocation. She is an example for every catechist“. (excerpt from homily, Saint John Paul II).
The Catholic Church celebrates her on 2 July.

Blessed Eugénie Joubert loved to transmit the faith of the Church. Let us be catechists with her!
Eugenie Joubert as a Child
“Passionate about evangelising poor children from de-Christianised backgrounds… she excelled in this mission, and quickly touched the hearts of these children who were left to their own devices, barely schooled and rowdy.
They, the “untouchables”, let themselves be tamed by the one they called their “little sister”: they knew she loved them. They saw in her the embodiment of the faith she passed on to them.
